FCC Product Certificate FCC certificates are documents that are executed according to the rules of the Federal Communications Commission of the United States (abbreviation FCC in Latin letters). This government agency establishes requirements to confirm compliance with electronic devices, participates in the development of standards, and approves certification bodies and testing laboratories.

 

Certificates are issued for products with high risks of creating “dangerous” radio interference in operation. Among them:

•  routers;
• routers;
• switches;
• smartphones (and other terminal subscriber devices);
• GSM alarm;
• other species.

Declarations are subject to devices with low, but possible risks of creating radio interference:

• PCs, laptops;
• printers, scanners;
• cash registers;
• other species.

Requirements for certain types of goods with low and high risks of radio interference are presented in chapters 15 and 18 of the FCC Rules. Certification is distinguished by a complicated scheme of conduct, as well as mandatory registration of products in the register of the commission.

According to the rules of the Federal Communications Commission, such devices are not subject to confirmation of compliance:

• imported for personal use;
• exhibition, advertising samples;
• for temporary import for export to other countries;
• samples for laboratory research.

There are limits for each of these categories. For example, for personal use, you can import only 3 devices, provided that in the future they will not be resold. Samples for exhibitions and advertising are limited to 400 copies.

After passing through all necessary procedures, the product is marked with FCC. For most products since 2017, this requirement has become optional, but the presence of this sign on the packaging and accompanying documents significantly increases consumer confidence.

The certification procedure is as follows:

• Product Identification.
• Definition of regulatory documents.
• Choice of requirements.
• Testing.
• Obtaining a certificate.
• Registration in the FCC.
• Marking (optional).

The declaration is also drawn up after collecting a voluminous package of documents. They must contain evidence of compliance with applicable requirements. Registration with the Federal Commission is not needed. However, tests are carried out in accredited laboratories. Documentation with evidence of compliance is kept by the responsible party and must be submitted at the request of supervisory or other authorized bodies.
