To import, you must obtain an import license (LI) from SECEX or the appropriate specialized federal agency. The license is valid 60 days from the date of shipment of the goods or from the date of issue, which is often not enough to complete the transaction and then the license will have to be obtained again. All imported goods must be accompanied by at least two copies of the invoice and bill of lading. In case of failure to comply with the above requirements, a fine of up to 100% of import duties may be imposed.
INMETRO is the main national accreditation body and is responsible for the implementation of national policies regarding quality and metrology. Technical regulations, conformity assessment requirements are developed and adopted by INMETRO.

Certified products must be marked with the INMETRO mark:
Brazil does not recognize the equivalence of technical regulations adopted by any trading partner, but recognizes equivalence based on test results. In other words, if products are tested and additional requirements of Brazilian standards are not imposed on them, then the test results will be recognized. In addition, Brazil has reciprocal accreditation recognition agreements with 80 authorities in 66 countries of the world, including with European notified bodies. This means that having received the CE mark, you can expect to receive a Brazilian certificate.
