Rosstandart spoke about the requirements for face masks

On April 9, 2020, the Rosstandart website published the main standards that fix the requirements for face masks. In connection with the situation of coronavirus infection, it is very important to understand what safety standards a wide variety of protective masks must meet. Let’s start with the classification of masks, in total there are three groups: medical masks; individual protection means; other facial masks. The main standard aimed at establishing requirements for medical masks is GOST R 58396-2019. It includes provisions on design, design, functional characteristics and research methods. Medical masks are primarily used by medical personnel, for example, during operations, and are also great for preventing infection by coughing or sneezing of the carrier of infection. In addition, the preliminary national standard (PNST) “Facial gauze masks”, which is planned to be adopted in June of this year, is currently under public review. The second group of masks falls into the scope of regulation of TS TS 019/2011 “On the safety of personal protective equipment”, which adopted lists of standards aimed at ensuring compliance with its standards. Among the standards for masks, two are distinguished: GOST 12.4.293-2015 (EN 136: 1998) and GOST 12.4.294-2015 (EN 149: 2001 + A1: 2009). As for other facial masks, they relate to sanitary products for which there are no uniform standards. The manufacturer most often develops its own technical specifications (TU) or contacts the register for already approved ones. In connection with the current situation, on April 13, 2020, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rosstandart, JSC “INPC TLP” developed and registered TU 13.92.29–005–00302178–2020 “Facial Hygiene Mask”, which everyone can use for the production of face masks.
